Is massage safe during pregnancy?

Massage can be extremely beneficial during pregnancy. Often, it may relieve common problems like sciatica, low back pain, sore neck and shoulders, cramps in the limbs and stress.

Massage is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy. During a massage session, toxins are released from your muscles, mainly in the form of lactic acid. These toxins can be harmful to your baby during this important stage of health and development. Therefore, it’s best to wait until the second trimester. Please let us know if you’re pregnant when you call to book an appointment.

Will I feel sore afterwards?

Some muscle soreness and strain is normal for up to 48 hours after your massage. It is important to increase your daily water intake following your session to flush toxins, in the form of lactic acid, from your system.
